A Lover’s Lament by K.L. Grayson & Taylor Urruela ~ Release Day

ALL RDL BannerIn a matter of seconds my entire world changed, and it was in that moment that I stopped living and simply began to exist.

In my grief, I sent a letter to the first boy I ever loved. I hoped in writing it I’d find some peace from the nightmare I was living, some solace in my anger.

I didn’t expect him to write back. I wasn’t prepared for his words, and I certainly wasn’t ready for the impact this soldier would have on my life. A deep-rooted hate transformed into friendship, and then molded into a love like I’d never known before.

Sergeant Devin Ulysses Clay did what I couldn’t: he put the shattered pieces of my heart back together, restoring my faith in humanity and teaching me how to live again.

But now that I’m whole, I have a decision to make. Do I return to my life as I knew it and the fiancé I left behind, or do I walk away from it all for the only man to ever break my heart?

***

I’ve been living in hell, but you won’t hear me complain.

These men depend on me, as I do them, and this brotherhood is the only family I’ve ever known.

The Army saved me from a callous mother and a life on the wrong side of the tracks that was quickly spiraling out of control. So unlike most of the men in my platoon, going home wasn’t something I longed for.

I was content overseas, spending my days defending this country that gave me my life back. Fighting became my new normal … until her.

A letter from Katie Devora—a letter that I almost didn’t open. Her words put a fire back inside of me that I didn’t know I’d lost. She gave me hope during a time when I was fighting every day just to stay alive, and now it’s time I fight for her.

Playing for Keeps & Playing to Win (Glasgow Lads series 1&2) by Avery Cockburn ~ Reviews

Playing for Keeps (Glasgow Lads, #1)Playing for Keeps (Glasgow Lads #1)

Rule One: No Drama!
Fergus Taylor is damaged goods. Reeling from a brutal breakup, he’s determined to captain his LGBT soccer team out of scandal and into a winning season. For that, he needs strict rules and careful plans. He does NOT need a brash, muscle-bound lad messing with his head and setting his body afire.

John Burns has a rule of his own: Don’t get attached. Boyfriends are for guys with nothing to hide. Nobody—not his university mates, not the men he beds—knows his family’s shame. Now his double life is starting to unravel, thanks to a certain Highlander whose storm-riddled eyes turn John inside out, who wears a kilt like he was born in it.

Fergus is the first man John wants to share his secret with—but he’s the last man who could handle it. John knows the truth would shatter Fergus’s still-fragile heart. But how can he live a lie when he’s falling in love?

Note: The Glasgow Lads series contains dirty talk with a Scottish accent, naughty bits of a gay nature, and characters who call soccer “football.”

John and Fergus, both very strong men, each in their own way. The are each so very head strong, believing what they always have and trying to come to terms with the fact that someone who disagrees with you, isn’t always the bad guy.

John has grown up believing – sometimes being forced to agree – to his families “way of life”. Taking care of his father, knowing his brother is not where he ever planned on being, only makes his conviction that much stronger. The only question is, can he not only be the person he wants to be, but not lose himself in being the person Fergus thinks he is.

Fergus has been hurt, who hasn’t right? But really, even with that – he has to open himself up again, but when you open yourself up and feel betrayed, how do you get past that? And do you really want to? Or is going back to the past, even if it hurt you worth not risking yourself again?

While John maybe should have said something sooner, I can’t blame him for his secrecy, I mean if you KNEW that what you were going to say would upset the person you would never want to hurt – would you tell them, or would you try to keep your past and your future away from each other?

I love John and Fergus, plus the conversations – Okay, yes I’m an American girl and any accent is just HOT – so hearing their voices in my head, yep I didn’t want this book to end.

While everyone in life wants a HEA, sometimes the path to get there is paved with obstacles you’ve never expected doesn’t mean the finish is anything less than what you expected.

While I’ve never been a big “football” (soccer for my American peeps) fan. I will freely admit that I would watch each and every game Fergus plays in…kilt or no, I’m cheering him on!!

Playing to Win (Glasgow Lads, #2)
Playing to Win (Glasgow Lads #2)

Colin MacDuff has nothing. Growing up in a Glasgow slum, he learned never to trust, never to cry—and never EVER to be at the mercy of anyone, especially rich men. So how did he end up half-naked at a rave with Scotland’s hottest young aristocrat?

Lord Andrew Sunderland has everything. From ancestral castle to posh prep school, he’s spent his life wrapping others around his wee finger. With a social circle full of celebrities and politicians, nothing can stop Andrew’s rise to the top. Nothing, that is, save his desire for a dirt-poor, wolf-eyed footballer whose scars and tattoos tell unbearable tales.

Colin and Andrew come from different worlds, believe in different worlds, want different worlds. Yet every time they touch, all worlds fall away.

Set amid the fiery Scottish-independence struggle, this searing gay romance tells the story of two men who must lose everything to win each other’s hearts.

 Review:
***** 5 Stars *****

I loved Lord Andrew and Colin!!!

Colin grew up, and still lives, on the wrong side of the tracks. But most of the time those tracks are blocked by so much more than one would ever even imagine.

Lord Andrew has grown up a spoiled rich kid, who doesn’t have to worry about where his next meal is coming from or if he will even have one.

Colin doesn’t hide who he is, but the wall he built to protect himself just might not be as strong as he thought. Once he sees that Andrew just may be closer to “Adam” than his high title wants others to think, can Colin forgive Andrew for the wrongs that neither man had any control over?

One man comes with a silver spoon in his mouth, the other barely has enough food to fill his own, can they each find a middle ground they can live with, or will everything they’ve done together – all the things they’ve said and done with one another enough to keep them together. Or will someone keep them apart, even when they are both willing to give up everything they’ve ever known is on the line.

This is the second full novel in this series and IMO it is better than the first. Colin brings out the best in Andrew, and Andrew does the same for Colin. Each man brought so much to the table in this book, and for that I am lucky to say I have read and enjoyed Playing to Win.

I wanted Andrew and Colin to both come out the winner in this wonderful tale, but to be honest I feel like the real winner is the reader.

Excerpt:

“I’m starting to think you might have a crush on me, Dr. Baby.” His own crooked smile spread, hoping he was getting past the too quiet remark from earlier. He didn’t want Derek to see him that way.

“Then quit dodging me and let’s play doctor,” Derek growled. Justin could feel Derek’s heated gaze on him, but refused to look his way.

“I don’t mix business with pleasure,” Justin playfully fired right back, like he had every night they’d worked together. Besides, Derek had to know he was such a liar. It took everything in him not to jump the smug doctor right there in the hallway and show him exactly how well he played with others.

“I’m not buying it. Besides, if you don’t want to play with me, then why do I always catch you eye-fucking me?” Derek cockily countered. The doctor grabbed his forearm, stopping Justin in his tracks. Derek turned toward him and their eyes locked in an instant. Justin wondered if Derek could hear his heart pounding against his chest as he held his challenging gaze.

This was new to the game.

Review:

Closet Confessions with extended scenes was just what you can count on with Kindle Alexander. A fun, hot read.

As I was saying, we get to meet Dr. Baby – a very strong and capable ER doctor who like all the night nurses seems to find Justin, the new nurse extremely delectable.

Justin is trying to adjust to civilian life, and working in the ER balances what he is used to and bridging the gap to a war free life.

The story has its hot moments, and we learn that not everything is as it seems from the surface, and that sometimes you have to take that leap to get your HEA.

The extended scenes show us how the two characters met, how sometimes lives change for the better, and how facing fears sometimes aren’t as scary as you imagine.

If you read Closet Confessions when it was part of the Night Shift anthology, you’re not going to want to miss the new scenes, the story itself doesn’t change but the added scenes can’t be missed.

I give this a 4.5 star review!!! ~Pam

WARNING: This book contains homosexual relations and crude language. A sneak peek at book 2 follows the ending!

Former Navy SEAL Axel Blaze lives a solitary life. He doesn’t do emotions, and he doesn’t do babysitting. Used to being on his own, his job consists of Wetwork (a charming term coined by the KGB) for his former Master Chief, Mac. When an out-of-the-ordinary job lands on his doorstep, Axel heads down a path that includes a famous heavy metal rock band and one quiet, vulnerable, guitar-shredding virtuoso named Gareth Wolf.

Gareth Wolf’s life changed in an instant when a car he was a passenger in crashed, hurting his brother’s best friend and the band’s lead guitarist. They created the band, Skull Blasters, as kids. Gareth had always been happy in the background, playing roadie. With the lead guitarist’s injury, Gareth is suddenly thrust into the limelight and into a frenzied life he never imagined for himself. Finally fed up with living a lie, Gareth comes out as gay in a newspaper interview and finds himself in the bulls-eye of a crazed stalker. Somebody wants Gareth hurt – or worse – and Mac has been hired to be sure that doesn’t happen. Babysitting duty is NOT Axel’s strong suit, but Mac won’t be budged.

Enter Axel Blaze.

Against his better judgment, the big man takes the job to protect the shy musician. The more time he spends with Gareth Wolf, the more he admires the man. Where’s a simple assassination when you need one? The situation becomes more volatile for each man as the attempts on Gareth escalate just as Axel finds himself falling for the quiet lead guitarist.

Strong, funny, smart-ass — and kinda sweet Axel is everything Gareth has ever wanted in a man. Too bad he’s off limits. As the stalker grows bolder, Gareth and Axel move closer emotionally – but is it too late? All Axel knows is that they don’t stand a chance if he can’t find the maniac trying to kill the man he’s come to care about. A lot.

Everyone knows that relationships that begin in pressured or volatile situations eventually fizzle out.

Or do they?

Excerpt:

Thumping music was shaking the walls of the Dome as I headed for my designated spot. I guess I’m meeting Paul, the band’s manager.

I took mental notes as I passed through the crowd of screaming, jumping people. The band was rocking it out and I sought out Gareth Wolf. There were two guitarists, but I found him right away. Black hair touched his shoulders and his lean body moved with his guitar.

He was in his element.

The song was wrapping up and the floor was shaking from the bass drum. The floor-to-ceiling speakers pumped out the last notes of the song. The crowd immediately went wild as Ransom Fox leaned over the stage.

“Let’s hear it for the best lead guitarist on the planet!” he shouted.

Gareth shook his hair back and bowed with one hand out. Again, the crowd screamed, shouted and whistled. Ransom went on to give some love to the other members of the group.

I rolled my eyes and pushed my way through the crowd toward the side of the stage. A large man eyed me and then nodded as I walked by. Again, I could have been wearing a ‘Hello, I’m God’ tag and security wouldn’t have batted an eyelash. As it was, my tag faced backwards; he couldn’t even see my name or credentials.

Security for the Skull Blaster band was sorely lacking.

I sat through another hour of bone-jarring hardcore metal before the band finally left the stage. I scanned the area for their manager, but no luck.

I walked right behind the curtain and fell into step with the band members as they trudged toward their dressing rooms. They didn’t even notice me — and I’m really hard to miss.

They stepped into the dressing room; I followed and slammed the door shut behind me. Ransom turned and his eyes widened.

“Who the fuck are you?!”

“Nice of you to finally notice me,” I pointed out.

“Paul!” Ransom thundered. He immediately moved in front of Gareth, shielding him.

“Oh for fucks sake.” I rolled my eyes.

The door behind me opened and a startled man looked me over from head to toe. He flipped my name badge over and sighed audibly, clearly relieved.

“It’s cool, Ransom. This is the guy I was telling you about.”

“You could have mentioned he was a semi-truck.” Ransom’s eyes narrowed.

“I’m sorry I couldn’t meet you,” Paul apologized to me. “I ran into some media and couldn’t get away.”

“Not that this isn’t fun — because, oh so much fun — but I’m here to do a job. So I need to speak to whoever is in charge of ‘security.’ Now.” I leaned very slightly — but effectively — in to Paul’s face.

“Why?”

I turned to see Gareth peeking out from behind his brother’s broad shoulders. His eyes were a shade of green I’d never seen before, and with his pale complexion and dark hair? The guy was a looker and then some.

“Because band security royally sucks. I walked right on back here with them and not one person noticed or stopped me. That is not acceptable.”

“Who are you?” Gareth gaped.

I pinned him with a hard look. “I’m your bodyguard.”

Ransom chuckled.

“What the actual fuck?” Gareth stepped in front of his brother. “Is this a joke?”

“Nope.” Ransom shook his head.

“Jinx, Harley, Rebel. Give us a few, eh?” Paul opened the door and tilted his head toward the hallway.

“Sure thing, boss.” Rebel tipped his hat and winked at me.

I leaned against the wall as the members walked out. I overheard one of them, not sure which, talking to another.

“Did you see the size of that guy?”

“How could you miss him?” another one answered.

Paul shut the door and turned to Gareth with an apologetic smile.

“I knew what you’d say if we told you beforehand,” he admitted.

“Oh, did you now? You had to get me Conan the Destroyer? Jesus Christ!”

“Gareth,” Ransom warned.

“What? This is stupid! I don’t need a human shield!”

“You’re going to play nice and allow this man to watch your back, Gareth!” Ransom shouted. “You’re getting threats since you came out! I insist you be kept safe!”

“Gareth, why don’t you go clean up? Then you and Mr. Blaze can get acquainted.”

“Seriously? Blaze?” Gareth snorted.

I narrowed my eyes at the kid. Well, to me he was a kid, after everything I’d seen in my life. Gareth was almost twenty-three and I was pushing thirty. We locked eyes for a few seconds before he turned away.

Fighting His Fire (Rock Gods #6) by Ann Lister ~ Review

Fighting His Fire (The Rock Gods Book 6)

Written by Ann Lister

Published on August 28, 2015

Blurb:

Locked-down at a Los Angeles intervention facility, everyone around Dante Dupont and his Black Ice band mate, Ashton Lane, thought this would fix the issues between them. Dante and Ashton knew differently. What made this a hundred times worse was the fact they were stuck in this room together. They hadn’t shared space like this since the one afternoon they both wanted to forget. And, revisiting that nightmare was not an option . . . with or without the help of a therapist.
Two musicians. Same band. Afraid to admit their true feelings, being in close quarters again has them both at their breaking point. They say if you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen, but neither of them can find a reason to leave, and fighting the fire is becoming more and more difficult to do.
Dante’s baggage isn’t pretty and his scars run deep, but Ashton might be the one to finally see beyond his past and help him find a way out from the smoke screen he’s spent his life hiding behind. In order to get there, though, they’ll both have to walk through the flames.

Review:

4 Stars

Dante and Ashton sure can turn hot embers into a smoldering inferno.

Dante and Ashton are fighting their attraction towards one another, and the reasons behind each of them is heartbreaking.

Miss Lister took some pretty intense situations and gave the readers more of a reason to love the imperfect in each of these characters.

Dante hides a lot of himself from those around himself, and once you find out why – you really can’t blame him.

Ashton is fighting his own demons, the reasons behind that are just as devastating as Dante’s were. My heart went out to both characters, and that is a true measure of an author – to allow a reader to fall in love or care for the characters as much as the author does (sometimes more, cause we all know we have those special BBF that we each claim to be our own – and will defend our rights to claim them, no matter who the other person is. LOL)

The book starts off right where it should have, Dante and Ashton were thrown into a facility to help deal with their anger issues towards each other. While I have no personal knowledge of interventions or such, this didn’t seem like such a far-fetched idea, at least to me, I mean it’s kinda like your mom throwing you in a room with your siblings when all you’re doing is fighting – and letting you work it out on your own. So with that, I thought it was funny, at least until some of the revelations were revealed OMG, it was so much! My heart hurt for both of them.

While Dante and Ashton struggle to come to terms with their issues both together and separately, they still made me love them.

We get glimpses into all the past characters, like Ann always allows of us in her books, it’s nice to get to peek in on all the guys and see how things are going for them. 🙂 Ann also let us glimpse into Lincoln’s world, and let me just say……that woman is going to kill me before the book comes out. I mean I already cried for him, and I can’t exactly tell you why – not because I’m mean or anything…but because all I have are ideas and thoughts (which most of the time is my biggest downfall, but hey – I deal with it, so you should too).

Thank you Ann for your Rock Gods!!

Excerpt:

Ashton shook off Dante’s hold on his arm and inched closer. “Why are you doing this? Are you deliberately trying to bait me into fighting with you? Or do you want me to leave? Because, I gotta say, I’m real close to punching you in the face right now and walking the fuck out of here.”

“Why would you do that?” Dante argued. “I seriously thought you might be interested in the brunette!”

Ashton blew out a breath and ran a hand through his tangled hair. As hard as he tried to calm himself, it didn’t work. He shook his head, then met Dante’s piercing blue eyes head on. “The only brunette I’m interested in has a dick – not a pussy. Got it?” And, with that declaration, Ashton stalked off in the direction of the bar. He ordered another beer and a shot of Jack Daniels. He’d already done the shot when Dante slid in beside him at the bar. Ashton noticed the fire in Dante’s eyes right away. It was never difficult to detect when Dante had a storm brewing inside of him. The question was always whether the fire was due to anger or passion and right now Ashton really didn’t know which he’d be fighting. What he wasn’t prepared for was hearing the smooth texture of Dante’s voice when he finally spoke.

“Do you want to get out of here, Ashes?”

I thought you’d never fucking ask. Ashton kept that comment to himself and simply turned away from the bar and Dante’s expressive eyes and walked toward the elevator. He didn’t much care if Dante was following or not, because with or without him, Ashton was leaving.

Review:

****  4 star read ****

Let me start out by saying, you have to read Bonded to get a better grasp on these characters.

Greg, Liam, and Chris make up a very interesting couple (can you call a relationship between three people a couple? I’m not sure, but that is what they are to me so I’m going with it).

It’s never easy going from believing one thing all of your life to it being forced upon you in a way you never thought imaginable. The feels this book brings out, really the feels that Sara is able to convey into words is amazing.

This book might not be for everyone, I mean we aren’t talking all flowers and roses, no this book will gut you before showing you that even through bad times – there is hope, we just can never lose sight of that.

While reading Bonded 2, it did feel as if it was two stories in one, and I was okay with that – it just took me a bit to come to terms with what I was feeling. Nothing took away from one story or the other, its just like life – what you experience affects those around you – so on and so forth. It was great to see the ripple effect, to get an “outsiders” perspective as to how they saw the relationship between Liam, Greg, and Chris.

There were many times where I wanted to stop reading, my heart hurt for these characters, but I couldn’t. I had to know how it ended, and now that it has, I want more. I’m greedy like that, but that’s okay – I’ll silently (or not, LOL) stalk Sara – I just love her work, and can’t wait to see what this amazing author has in store for us next. And, yes I mean that even if it is with new characters, because Sara makes it impossible not to love her guys.

About the Author: Sara York

Writing is Sara’s life. The stories fight to get out, often leaving her working on four or five books at once. She can’t help but write. Along with her writing addiction she has a coffee addiction. Some nights, the only reason she stops writing and goes to sleep is for the fresh brewed coffee in the morning.

Sara enjoys writing twisted tales of passion, anger, and love with a good healthy dose of lust thrown in for fun. Almost a quarter of a century ago Sara met her lover, falling for him after knowing him for ten minutes. Sara’s passion for him comes out in her stories, mixing with her passion for life, love, and good times, flowing onto the page and becoming tales from the heart.

Author Interview:

Sara what gives you the inspiration to write such amazing stories? I hope people think they are amazing. I guess it’s everything from my background to what’s going on in the world today. Coming from a very homophobic family I’ve seen the darkness that can come from so much hate. It’s a horrible place to be, hating someone for something that is so small as who they love, though I know for gay guys and lesbians it’s a big deal not to be hated. I guess I would just love to see equality, because really, love is what makes the world go around.
What is your favorite colour? Purple, I really do like purple because it’s the perfect mix of pink and blue, which are both my favorite colors.
Who is one of your favorite authors? I love Kindle Alexander’s books, and Ethan Stone. But then there is James Patterson and Janet Evanovich. There are just so many to choose from.
How did the plot of bonded come about? In 2014 the MM group in Goodreads did a free read event and the story was asked for by one of the Goodreads members. I picked a very sexy prompt and Bonded was born.
I know your an avid coffee lover so what is your favorite coffee? I love Kona coffee but I can’t get my favorite Kona bean in the states all year round so I’m happy when I do get it.
Do you have a favorite coffee mug? Yes, it says Mine and has the birds from Finding Nemo on them.
Do you have any advice for any one who wants to start writing? Don’t give up. Writing is hard and you just have to push through. Also slow down. It takes a long time to get things right in a story, give the story that time.
How do you get over writers block? I switch to a different story or get some more coffee. Usually that does the trick.
