Embody (Full Circle 1) by SE Hall ~ Review

Embody (Full Circle #1) by SE Hall

Published on January 29, 2017

I’m not “damaged.” No horrible childhood or demons in my past I’m trying to outrun. In fact, my family is ideal — funny, supportive and filled with couples that all follow “our” golden rule:

Find her. Protect her. Love only her, with everything you are, every day, for the rest of your life.

So why is it the mere thought of a monogamous relationship, more than one night with the same woman, sends me bolting in the other direction?

Because I hadn’t met Bellamy Morgan yet.

When I do cross paths with her, everything starts to slowly make sense. Why men change overnight — suddenly blind to all women but her, happy to hold her purse and watch corny movies.

Just one problem — she’s my little sister’s best friend.

Embody is a spin-off, STANDALONE novel from the bestselling Evolve Series

I love S.E. Hall’s way with words, she takes us out of our normal lives and throws us into a world that is full of so much more.

If you read all about Dane, then you’re already ready for JT – or are you? He is his father’s son, but he also has a bit of his mom thrown in for good measure. And lets not forget how impressionable Sawyer is, cause there’s a bit of Sawyer in all of us.

This is a book that needs to be read and enjoyed, each person will get something else out of this book than what I did, but it will be worth it – at least it was to me.

I wish I could re-read this again for the first time, but it will be left on my re-read shelf, cause I don’t think I could ever give up on my Crew or Squad membership. I am in it for life, and I’d love some company so come join me.

In Huskers Grove, Iowa, a darkness looms. A great and faceless evil. An evil that wants Sapphira. Can she master her abilities to save the ones she loves or will she fall victim to the enemy that seeks to take what is rightfully hers?

Amber did not disappoint, well to be honest, she never does.

I will admit I was so excited to read this book, but was also a bit scared to….I knew Amber would bring me to a world I would not want to leave and she accomplished that in spades.

I mean really, the worlds that this woman is able to create are beyond amazing and when I saw that I was almost done reading, I cried. I didn’t want Phira’s story to end.

I mean I, at one point, was so enamored with the story that I was reading in the dark and didn’t hear or see my son walking up to me (it didn’t help that while he was doing his creeping up on me, I was at a part that was a bit unnerving) needless to say he scared me and I hid under my covers laughing and cursing him all at the same time.

I may not have thought I’d enjoy Phira’s story when I first started…I mean really, she has some big shoes to fill. But by the end, I wanted to stay and see what would happen next. I fell in love with Phira and everyone around her.  I will be watching (stalking) Amber, looking for when I can expect more from her and her loveable characters, even if I want to shake them sometimes to snap them out of the hell they put themselves through – even if they don’t know it.

Thank you again, Miss Natusch, for giving me another reason to love you.

Done Deal by Rene D. Schultz ~ Review

Done Deal

Written by Rene D. Schultz

“If you died tomorrow… what would be your legacy?”

Death does not begin with the loss of the ability to breath, or the last beat of your heart. Cissy learns this as she takes us on an inspiring and eye-opening journey filled with love, friendship, laughter… and hope. This book is about the value of every moment of your life and fighting a good fight.

Cissy is your typical hard working, single mother, who leads a very simple life. Until one day, when a cancer diagnosis has her spinning in circles. Not one to sit around and do nothing, and with years of experience in the medical field, she decides to research new medications and clinical studies on the Internet. Then all of a sudden, she hits a block wall. Why are the pharmaceuticals holding back ‘orphan’ drugs that have the ability to save thousands of lives? And..why are the greedy insurance companies refusing to pay for these medications to keep people alive? Cissy goes on a quest to find these answers. What she discovers is shocking.

With an anger that leaves her cynical, and with time running out, she sets out to ‘right a wrong.’ She does the unimaginable…

In this new age of technology… Hackers become a reality, and new Robin Hoods become our heroes!

Review: 4 Stars

This book is very well written, in watching how Cissy deals with the devastating news of the big “C” (cancer). The book takes you on a journey with Cissy, her friends, her family, and her doctors and brings with it the feelings of hope, love, anger, humor, and loss. There is so much that happens in the short time period of when Cissy learns of her diagnosis and the loss of life, but the story is not rushed or glossed over..as a reader you are taken along in this ride of life, you feel for each and every character. There is some talk in this book as to how the government and pharmaceutical companies go about funding and I think it just makes the story that much more believable. This story may not have a typical HEA, or maybe it does…

I think this book just proves that what you do in your life and what is handed to you makes you and what you do with it that much more important……I wish everyone could make a positive mark on everyone you have the chance to meet…..memories are our legacy, make them count.

A Mended Man by Jaime Reese ~ Review

A Mended Man (The Men of Halfway House, #4)

A Mended Man (The Men of Halfway House #4)

Written by Jaime Reese

Published on April 28, 2016

Detective Aidan Calloway is rock-solid strong. He’s a man of justice—loyal to his friends, family, and job—even if it requires bending a law…or two. He shields himself behind an abrasive, fearless facade, until a phone call one night chips his armor and throws his perfectly planned, hollow life into a tailspin.

Jessie Vega is the epitome of optimism. His carefully crafted attitude of hope and positivity protects him from a past filled with too much pain. When a ghost from a dark time resurfaces and nearly breaks him, he must tap into his inner strength or risk losing everything he’s worked so hard to build.

But Jessie can’t do it alone. He must fight to break through Aidan’s ironclad defenses to reveal the heart of the man hiding beneath the tough surface and mend his damaged spirit. Only then can they truly heal and become strong enough to battle the demons that haunt them and threaten their chance to finally be together.

A Mended Man, another amazing story by Jaime Reese

A Mended Man is the story of Aidan and Jessie, and if you have read either A Hunted Man or A Restored Man, then you’ve already gotten to meet these wonderful characters – but you don’t know their story, but you will and you will not regret it.

Aidan has always been a mystery, you wonder why he is the way he is. You wonder what he has seen to make him the man he is. Aidan’s story is not easy, he has so many reasons as to why. Aidan is the ultimate protector, he will do what he can to protect those that mean something to him and he lets his protectiveness shine in this story. To see how he realizes strength doesn’t always come from muscles one has, or that strength isn’t always worn on the outside, always the reader to see that Aidan is so much stronger than he himself realizes.

Jessie is quiet, but fierce. His strength comes from within, he is just as determined to protect everyone around himself as Aidan is, only he doesn’t realize that his strength is the one that Aidan is in desperate need of receiving. Jessie’s life hasn’t been easy either, but his outlook that he can’t allow his past to rule his future, is what gives this man a strength beyond measure.

This is a long story, but once you reach the end you know why, it isn’t an easy journey to be the person you once were, or the person you are meant to be. Jaime takes us on a journey with Aidan and Jessie, a journey I feel so very grateful to have taken. While I hoped their story would be easy, I knew it wouldn’t be. The glimpses we had gotten into who they were from earlier books, showed that not everything is how it seems. You don’t need to read the earlier books in the series before reading this one, but there are characters mentioned and seen in here that show up in earlier books, which just means if you have read any of the earlier books in the series you just may get to see a few old faces.

I wish I could put my emotions into words for this book, I had hoped that thinking about it and mulling it over would help….it didn’t (lol). I just have to say thank you to Jaime, Aidan, and Jessie – thank you for letting me in and showing me just how much love you all have for one another. Ms. Reese, my hat is off for you, I can’t imagine hearing this story first hand, to have to see what Aidan and Jessie showed you, and for you to put their thoughts, their fears, their past on paper for your readers. If I could give you a hug, I would – along with a hug for Jessie and Aidan. I will be re-reading this series, over and over (and I have told Ms. Jaime Reese this before, lol). Thank you for sharing your characters with us, and thank you to your characters for telling us your story.

I get this huge dorky grin on my face when I receive a message from someone who has taken the time to read my book. I know readers have a choice in a sea of many options. I’m humbled when someone chooses one of mine. Thank you. ~JR

About me…
Jaime Reese is the alter ego of an artist who loves the creative process of writing, just not about herself. Fiction is far more interesting. She has a weakness for broken, misunderstood heroes and feels everyone deserves a chance at love and life. An avid fan of a happy ending, she believes those endings acquired with a little difficulty are more cherished.

…and yes, it was totally weird reading something about myself in 3rd person 🙂

When I’m With You by Harper Sloan ~ Review

When I'm With You (Hope Town, #3)

When I’m With You

Written by Harper Sloan

Published on April 26, 2016

It’s nearly impossible to be surrounded by love but not understand it. My parents, my sister, and just about everyone around us has no trouble accepting that love. To give your trust to someone else and believe they would die before hurting you. I’ve witnessed it—I’ve seen the power of it—but I’ve also seen the pain. Because for me, I’ve only loved someone I could never have, and my biggest fear is that by giving her my love, all I would do is ruin her. I should have tried harder, but I’m not sure I can because I only feel complete when I’m with her.

The only time I feel like I belong is when he’s near. His infectious smile warms me straight to my bones. Any insecurities I have vanish with just a wink from him. A sliver of his attention makes me feel invincible. But all it took was one drunken night of truths for me to lose everything I had begun to crave. Now, I’m not sure how to move on because I only feel complete when I’m with him.

He said I was too young. I said he was perfect. He said our families wouldn’t understand. I said we could weather any storm. He said he would ruin me. And he was right.

While I love the Corps Security books, I’m loving the Hope Town books just as much….could it be because now I get to read about the second generation? Maybe, or it could just be the way Harper Sloan brings characters to life.

When I’m with You is Nate and Ember’s story, and it is a story that made me smile the whole way through.

Nate is…Nate, his humor and aloofness is what he shows everyone. He may have his reasons for being who he is, or he can just be Nate. I like him as just Nate, I mean we all have things we would rather not let everyone around us know about, so why not show them what they are used to? Now, that in no way means Nate is perfect, because lets face it, no one really is. He has made a few mistakes, and when it comes to Ember, those mistakes aren’t just blips on the screen, While he doesn’t quite know just how bad his mistakes are/were, he will and it won’t be an easy fix for him or Ember.

Ember is…Ember, she has had her heart stomped on by the only man she’s loved. Now while the first time was somewhat understandable, the second was a bit harder to get over.

When the truth is revealed, it will take a bit of work for both of them, but they always have the support of their parents, and extended family behind them, so even when it may seem like too much for one or both of them to handle, the people that help hold them up are just what they both need.

There is humor in here, I mean what else can you expect from Harper Sloan? She can make us laugh and cry, which just means she is able to let us live in her words, in her books, and in her imagination. But there are also times where my palms were sweating and my pulse raced, I mean really I feel like I’ve just ridden a rollercoaster when I finish a H.S. book, the rush of fear and excitement, the laughter and breathlessness that comes with the ups and downs. I enjoy every single time I feel as if I’ve lost my stomach with each turn of the page.

****4.5 Stars****

I will admit, I had high expectations for this book. Not only did S.E. Hall meet, but she surpassed every expectation I had.

I mean, really. It’s the CREW!! The Crew I have loved since book one Emerge. I mean we have Dane in all his bossy, hotness (and yes, he does both very well). Next comes Evan, his sweet side and we even learned that this country boy has a bit of a hot side himself. Then there is Sawyer, I mean he is the total package, hot, bossy, tatted, funny….I mean, yeah. Sawyer’s perfect, well….Yeah, he’s perfect. Then there’s Zach, will we ever get to see what or better yet, who Zach is? I mean, he’s the ultimate best friend, he’s there for everyone, always has their backs, but is there more to Zach we haven’t yet seen?

I think this book, if you’ve read the series you don’t want to be spoiled with what happens. I mean if someone would’ve spoiled this for me….yep, there might’ve been a bit of blood shed, at least tears would’ve been shed, so I’m not going to give anything away (hiss at me if you wish, but you’ll thank me later).

I mean, okay…I’ll give you something…is there a wedding? Yes! But that’s all you’re getting from me.

I have always loved the Crew, and the writing style of S.E. Hall, I mean really, for a book to transfer you from your couch, chair, car – wherever it is you read – and throw you into another world, a world where you might not be listed as a character, but it doesn’t mean you’re not there with them. Going through all of life’s ups and downs, you cheer with the characters when something amazing happens, you cry with them when things get a bit too much, I mean really. A book that can take you out of your life and throw you into another is amazing, and I’ll tell you this much. I felt like I was there with the Crew, my finger hitting my kindle turning to the next page like the hounds of hell were after me. Yes, I had to stop a few times, I mean – hello, Dane….I had to wipe the sweat from my brow, fan myself a few times, I even had to stop when the …… nope, like I said no spoilers here.

All I will say is the wait has been worth it to read this book. S.E. Hall has outdone herself, in my opinion – and hey, you’re reading this so you must want to know (HAHAHA) – and I am so grateful that I took the journey with the Crew when I first read Emerge and never looked back.

Tempted In Texas by Sara York ~ blog tour ~ review ~ giveaway

tit cover
Rusty Briggs knows his chance of finding a man while living outside of Sweetwater, Texas are slim to none. Few know about his little secret, but his ranch hands have run out on him and the folks in town aren’t as hospitable as they were before the incident. He’s resigned himself to the fact that working his ranch will have to be enough or he will need to sell and move to the big city…that is until he meets Trent Anderson.
On the outside Trent appears to be a man with full access to silver spoons and caviar dreams, but his parents cut him off and tossed him out once they discovered he was gay. After living on the street, selling himself, then ending up in a destructive relationship, Trent pulled his life together and came out on top, all by using his compassion and intelligence—or so Trent thinks. Recently, Trent’s grandfather passed away and left him his ranch, as long as he meets a few conditions, like living in Texas for ninety days. But Trent’s secret benefactor, Reed, is dissatisfied that Trent isn’t living in Atlanta and wants him back. The only issue for Reed is that Trent is involved with Rusty.
Money, greed, lust, and power work to keep Rusty and Trent apart. They are forced to trust each other when life falls apart, but can they actually become close enough in ninety days to create a solid, trusting relationship, or will old relationships come between them?
****4 stars****
Rusty and Trent will not only steal your heart, but also break it as well.
Trent is forced to stay at his grandfather’s ranch for 90 days, if he wants to receive his inheritance, the problem being is that Trent is gay and his grandfather knew this. It may be his grandfather’s way of changing what Trent is, but Trent is determined to get through all the things he has to. He has plans for that money, to help other kids who need his help more than Trent needs the money.
Rusty isn’t sure if he was going to stay or if he would eventually leave. Being a gay rancher, one who hides as much of himself that he can, he isn’t satisfied with how his life is lived. Rusty wants more than a once a year hook-up, but knows that finding something more in the small backwards town he is living in, is a dream that is unlikely to come true.
It may be neighborly, but when Rusty checks up on Trent the first night he is staying at his grandfather’s ranch…nothing is the same in the light of day.
Can Rusty and Trent keep their hopes alive? Can they both find a common place, where neither has to give up on their own hopes and dreams – or each other?
Be sure and pick up this great book from Sara York.

Usually, I try for funny. Humor is a major part of my life – I love to laugh, and it seems to be the thing I do in most situations – regardless of the situation, but jokes are a tricky deal… I don’t want to offend anyone and jokes tend to offend. So instead I’m going to tell you about Kindle.
I tragically lost my sixteen year old daughter to a drunk driver. She had just been at home, it was early in the night and I heard the accident happen. I’ll never forget that moment. The sirens were immediate and something inside me just knew. I left my house, drove straight to the accident on nothing more than instinct. I got to be there when my little girl died – weirdly, I consider that a true gift from above. She didn’t have to be alone.
That time in my life was terrible. It’s everything you think it would be times about a billion. I love that kid. I loved being her mother and I loved watching her grow into this incredibly beautiful person, both inside and out. She was such a gift to me. To have it all ripped away so suddenly broke me.

A Lover’s Lament by K.L. Grayson & Taylor Urruela ~ Release Day

ALL RDL BannerIn a matter of seconds my entire world changed, and it was in that moment that I stopped living and simply began to exist.

In my grief, I sent a letter to the first boy I ever loved. I hoped in writing it I’d find some peace from the nightmare I was living, some solace in my anger.

I didn’t expect him to write back. I wasn’t prepared for his words, and I certainly wasn’t ready for the impact this soldier would have on my life. A deep-rooted hate transformed into friendship, and then molded into a love like I’d never known before.

Sergeant Devin Ulysses Clay did what I couldn’t: he put the shattered pieces of my heart back together, restoring my faith in humanity and teaching me how to live again.

But now that I’m whole, I have a decision to make. Do I return to my life as I knew it and the fiancé I left behind, or do I walk away from it all for the only man to ever break my heart?

I’ve been living in hell, but you won’t hear me complain.

These men depend on me, as I do them, and this brotherhood is the only family I’ve ever known.

The Army saved me from a callous mother and a life on the wrong side of the tracks that was quickly spiraling out of control. So unlike most of the men in my platoon, going home wasn’t something I longed for.

I was content overseas, spending my days defending this country that gave me my life back. Fighting became my new normal … until her.

A letter from Katie Devora—a letter that I almost didn’t open. Her words put a fire back inside of me that I didn’t know I’d lost. She gave me hope during a time when I was fighting every day just to stay alive, and now it’s time I fight for her.

Playing for Keeps & Playing to Win (Glasgow Lads series 1&2) by Avery Cockburn ~ Reviews

Playing for Keeps (Glasgow Lads, #1)Playing for Keeps (Glasgow Lads #1)

Rule One: No Drama!
Fergus Taylor is damaged goods. Reeling from a brutal breakup, he’s determined to captain his LGBT soccer team out of scandal and into a winning season. For that, he needs strict rules and careful plans. He does NOT need a brash, muscle-bound lad messing with his head and setting his body afire.

John Burns has a rule of his own: Don’t get attached. Boyfriends are for guys with nothing to hide. Nobody—not his university mates, not the men he beds—knows his family’s shame. Now his double life is starting to unravel, thanks to a certain Highlander whose storm-riddled eyes turn John inside out, who wears a kilt like he was born in it.

Fergus is the first man John wants to share his secret with—but he’s the last man who could handle it. John knows the truth would shatter Fergus’s still-fragile heart. But how can he live a lie when he’s falling in love?

Note: The Glasgow Lads series contains dirty talk with a Scottish accent, naughty bits of a gay nature, and characters who call soccer “football.”

John has grown up believing – sometimes being forced to agree – to his families “way of life”. Taking care of his father, knowing his brother is not where he ever planned on being, only makes his conviction that much stronger. The only question is, can he not only be the person he wants to be, but not lose himself in being the person Fergus thinks he is.

Fergus has been hurt, who hasn’t right? But really, even with that – he has to open himself up again, but when you open yourself up and feel betrayed, how do you get past that? And do you really want to? Or is going back to the past, even if it hurt you worth not risking yourself again?

While John maybe should have said something sooner, I can’t blame him for his secrecy, I mean if you KNEW that what you were going to say would upset the person you would never want to hurt – would you tell them, or would you try to keep your past and your future away from each other?

I love John and Fergus, plus the conversations – Okay, yes I’m an American girl and any accent is just HOT – so hearing their voices in my head, yep I didn’t want this book to end.

While everyone in life wants a HEA, sometimes the path to get there is paved with obstacles you’ve never expected doesn’t mean the finish is anything less than what you expected.

While I’ve never been a big “football” (soccer for my American peeps) fan. I will freely admit that I would watch each and every game Fergus plays in…kilt or no, I’m cheering him on!!

Playing to Win (Glasgow Lads #2)

Colin MacDuff has nothing. Growing up in a Glasgow slum, he learned never to trust, never to cry—and never EVER to be at the mercy of anyone, especially rich men. So how did he end up half-naked at a rave with Scotland’s hottest young aristocrat?

Lord Andrew Sunderland has everything. From ancestral castle to posh prep school, he’s spent his life wrapping others around his wee finger. With a social circle full of celebrities and politicians, nothing can stop Andrew’s rise to the top. Nothing, that is, save his desire for a dirt-poor, wolf-eyed footballer whose scars and tattoos tell unbearable tales.

Colin and Andrew come from different worlds, believe in different worlds, want different worlds. Yet every time they touch, all worlds fall away.

Set amid the fiery Scottish-independence struggle, this searing gay romance tells the story of two men who must lose everything to win each other’s hearts.

Note: The Glasgow Lads series contains dirty talk with a Scottish accent, naughty bits of a gay nature, and characters who call soccer “football.”

I loved Lord Andrew and Colin!!!

Colin grew up, and still lives, on the wrong side of the tracks. But most of the time those tracks are blocked by so much more than one would ever even imagine.

Lord Andrew has grown up a spoiled rich kid, who doesn’t have to worry about where his next meal is coming from or if he will even have one.

Colin doesn’t hide who he is, but the wall he built to protect himself just might not be as strong as he thought. Once he sees that Andrew just may be closer to “Adam” than his high title wants others to think, can Colin forgive Andrew for the wrongs that neither man had any control over?

One man comes with a silver spoon in his mouth, the other barely has enough food to fill his own, can they each find a middle ground they can live with, or will everything they’ve done together – all the things they’ve said and done with one another enough to keep them together. Or will someone keep them apart, even when they are both willing to give up everything they’ve ever known is on the line.

This is the second full novel in this series and IMO it is better than the first. Colin brings out the best in Andrew, and Andrew does the same for Colin. Each man brought so much to the table in this book, and for that I am lucky to say I have read and enjoyed Playing to Win.

I wanted Andrew and Colin to both come out the winner in this wonderful tale, but to be honest I feel like the real winner is the reader.
